Reminders
I never see the heads-up notification
Open Perk's settings, go to Your data and press "Send a test reminder". If nothing appears, the notification is being stopped before it reaches you:
- On a Mac: System Settings > Notifications > Google Chrome, and allow notifications.
- On Windows: Settings > System > Notifications, and turn Google Chrome on.
- A Focus or Do Not Disturb mode hides notifications from every app, Chrome included.
The break itself does not depend on notifications. It opens in a tab either way.
The block ended but no break opened
Perk holds a break, or counts it as taken, in four cases:
- a Google Meet, Zoom or Teams tab is playing sound, so you are on a call;
- a window is fullscreen, such as a video or a presentation: the break comes when you leave fullscreen;
- you were away from the computer for longer than "Away for at least" in settings, which counts as the break;
- it is outside the work hours you set.
If you stay away for an hour or more, Perk stops the timer and counts nothing. Press Start focus when you are back.
While a break is being held the popup says so, and "Start break now" takes it anyway.
The break didn't come to the front
That is on purpose when you are working in another app. Perk does not pull Chrome in front of what you are doing: it plays the chime, shows a "Break time" notification and opens the break in a Chrome tab that waits for you. The break still ends on time, so the sooner you get to it the more of it you have. A break you never look at counts as skipped.
A break opened in the middle of my call
Perk can only see calls that run in a Chrome tab on Google Meet, Zoom or Teams. A call in a desktop app, or on another service, is invisible to it. Snooze the break from the heads-up, or pause the block before the call.
Stretches
I keep getting a stretch I can't or don't want to do
Settings > Stretch library. Press a stretch to leave it out of your breaks, and again to put it back. Body and moves, just above it, chooses which areas Perk concentrates on.
Something hurts
Stop. The stretches are general movement tips, not medical advice, and Perk has no idea what your body is dealing with. Leave that stretch out, and ask a doctor or physiotherapist about anything that keeps hurting.
Your data
Where is it kept?
Your settings and break history are in Chrome's extension storage on your computer, and nowhere else. The only thing Perk sends is anonymous usage stats to Google Analytics: which parts of Perk get used, never the sites you visit or anything you type. The privacy policy lists exactly what is stored and what is sent.
How do I turn off usage stats?
Settings > Your data > Share anonymous usage stats. Once it is off, nothing is sent.
How do I delete it?
Settings > Your data > Delete everything clears your settings, history, XP and badges at once. Removing the extension does the same.
Can I move my history to another computer?
Not yet. Nothing is synced, so each computer keeps its own.
Removing Perk
Right-click the Perk icon in the toolbar and choose "Remove from Chrome", or remove it from chrome://extensions. If you have a minute, an email saying why would help.
